Flycatcher

Celebrating the Diverse Terroirs of Our Home State.

The Napa Valley is our winery home but we identify strongly as California winemakers, and we love our eclectic state and the like-minded winegrowers who share our passion for responsible farming. Enter Flycatcher, a cheeky nod to our signature Frog’s Leap wines, just produced from fruit a little further afield. A fresh and deliciously drinkable red wine made from fruit sourced with intention. Compatible with just about everything — it’s the kind of wine we’d always feel comfortable uncorking, even if it’s just a regular old Tuesday night.

Why We Make this Wine
While Frog’s Leap’s roots are firmly planted in Napa Valley, this wine embodies a wider embrace—crafted from hand-selected vineyards across Northern California. Flycatcher is a vibrant, expressive red blend with an agenda — a winemaker’s wine meant to celebrate (and make good use of) our home state’s rich viticultural diversity, varied terroir and committed wine growing families.  An easy companion for kitchen table meals and beachside gatherings, offering a spirited and approachable style that’s both generous and grounded.

Where We Got the Fruit (and Why)
Old Vine Zinfandel (Lodi | Mokelumne River AVA) – Planted in 1963 at Five Starr Ranch, providing plush, sun-warmed fruit and depth.
Petite Sirah (Yorkville Highlands | Mendocino) – Grown on steep slopes, lending grip, structure, and spice.
Merlot (Yorkville Highlands | Mendocino) – High-elevation lots adding lift, freshness, and an earthy-floral top note.
Syrah (Carneros | Napa Valley) – Volcanic tufa soils contribute savory character and backbone.

Winemaking Details
Each varietal was vinified separately to preserve its distinctive voice, then harmonized in barrel and tank to create a layered yet seamless whole. A thoughtful blend of these sites yields a wine that balances exuberance and finesse and the end result is spontaneous and unpretentious—crafted to honor the land while inviting sheer enjoyment in the glass.

In the Glass
Ripe raspberry, black plum, and wild cherry burst upfront, tempered by hints of violet, cacao, and pepper-driven spice. On the palate, supple tannins and lively acidity drive energy through a lingering, fruit-forward finish. Fresh, juicy, and irresistibly drinkable.

Drink This With…
Pair with grilled meats, wood-fired pizza, BBQ jackfruit, or roasted vegetables. Best enjoyed slightly cool—around 60°F—to highlight its lively aromatics and balance.
